{"id":82,"date":"2017-06-12T08:31:42","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T08:31:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cinematography.net\/CineRant\/?p=82"},"modified":"2017-06-12T08:31:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T08:31:42","slug":"do-you-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinematography.net\/CineRant\/2017\/06\/12\/do-you-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you care?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CML was set up for high-end pro\u2019s and those who aspire to be in that class.<br \/>\nI\u2019ve never worried about offending anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>There are lots of places on the net for cinematographers who don\u2019t care about or maybe just don\u2019t recognise a high quality image.<br \/>\nI never wanted CML to be one of those places.<\/p>\n<p>My recent experiences of working with post people whose whole approach to\u00a0life was \u201cthat\u2019ll do\u201d \u201cgood enough\u201d \u201cnobody\u201dll notice\u201d has caused me to stop\u00a0and take stock.<\/p>\n<p>I feel that CML has been drifting in that direction.<\/p>\n<p>I realise the political and economic pressures that are on us, believe me!<\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t remove from the fact that if we don\u2019t stand up for image<br \/>\nquality nobody will we are \u201cthe guardians of the image\u201d and painful though\u00a0it might be at times we have to fight that fight.<\/p>\n<p>Answer for yourself a few simple questions, in a world where data size<br \/>\ndidn\u2019t matter, where RAW recorders were tiny and cheap, where transfer times\u00a0were zero, where processing power was vast WOULD YOU EVER SHOOT ANYTHING\u00a0OTHER THAN RAW?<\/p>\n<p>Of course you wouldn\u2019t because deep down inside you know that compression\u00a0damages your images.<\/p>\n<p>Next question, bearing in mind the conditions listed above, given a choice<br \/>\nof a system that recorded equal amounts of RGB and one that recorded 50%G\u00a0and 25%R&amp;B and then guessed what was in the holes that that approach left\u00a0behind would you ever use anything other than the full RGB system?<\/p>\n<p>Of course you wouldn\u2019t because you know that resolution and colour are<br \/>\ncompromised by CFA systems.<\/p>\n<p>Now, given that you would go the quality route every time, why are you being\u00a0such chickenshits and compromising your images all the time?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CML was set up for high-end pro\u2019s and those who aspire to be in that class.
