Digital Cinema Camera Evaluations 2017

These evaluations were carried out by Geoff Boyle in early July 2017 at MacGyver studios in Amsterdam with the invaluable assistance of Camalot and Vocas

Coordination was by Sebastiaan van Zuylen of Camalot and I was assisted by Erik Weidenhof and Sergejs Bozoks

All cameras with the exception of the C200 and Ursa Mini-Pro were tested using a Fujinon HK 4.7 * 18 and focal length varied and noted below to match a "standard" S35 frame size shot with a 50mm. The C200 and Ursa used a Canon CNE 50mm due to the EF mount.

The cameras, where appropriate, were set to whatever resolution came closest to a "standard" S35 frame so, for example, the Helium was shot at 7K.

Lighting was a pair of BB&S Area 48's courtesy of Lux&co

The reference charts were courtesy of DSClabs

The only objective here is to establish the true ISO of any camera and to find a precise usable dynamic range. I emphasise usable as although more may be measurable it may be too noisy to use or the colour may change too much.
