I've got to shoot a building imploding and wondered if anyone
has had any experience shooting one before. I can do the math
for figuring out frame rate but would love any help with prior
experience.
Thanks in advance...

I shot the implosion of the Kingdome in Seattle a few years
ago. I used a Photosonics Actionmaster at 400fps, and an Arri
35-3 at 120fps. At 400fps it takes a vveerryy long time for
the action to develop and it was way too much. The Arri 35-3
at 120fps was great. If I were to place a camera very close
to, or in the action area, I might opt for a higher frame
rate, but the full view of the building worked very well at
120fps.

I shot building implosion with Action Master at 200 frames
and even that was to slow, Arri III at 100fps yielded better
results. If you are close to the building - within two or
three blocks, make sure that you are prepared to protect your
gear.
Dust cloud will engulf you and your equipment.
